The laws of the realm
These are every rule the ranking uses. When a rule changes, it changes here first, with a dated entry in the changelog at the bottom.
One vote per game per day
Each voter can vote for each game once every rolling 24 hours, counted from their last vote for that game. You do not need an account to vote.
We recognise a voter by their network address (IPv6 addresses are grouped by /64), a cookie on their device, their account if signed in, and the player id in the game's vote link. If any of these voted for the game in the last 24 hours, the new vote is refused and the page shows when you can vote again.
Every vote passes a captcha check from Cloudflare Turnstile.
The boards
- Monthly: votes in the current calendar month. Resets at 00:00 UTC on the 1st. The #1 game at month end is crowned.
- Trending: votes in the last 7 days, including today.
- Rising: only games listed in the last 60 days, ranked by votes in the last 7 days.
- All-time: total votes since listing, shown on each game's page.
Ties go to the game that reached its total first.
Crowns: right after each month ends, the top 3 of the Monthly board get a permanent trophy on their page and a free Featured week to use in the new month.
Fraud checks
Before a vote counts, it gets a risk score from signals such as how long the vote page was open, whether the browser kept its cookie, and how many votes came from the same network in the last hour. Votes with a high score are not counted. We do not tell the sender, because telling them would help them tune a bot.
Games whose votes spike against their own normal pattern, or come mostly from one network, go to a review queue. Votes an admin confirms as fraudulent are removed and the removal is listed publicly on the game's page.
Games caught inflating votes lose those votes on the first offence, and are delisted with the owner banned on the second.
What money can and cannot do
Ads are always labeled Sponsored or Featured and sit outside the ranking. Buying an ad never changes votes or rank.
The one paid effect on rank is Boost, part of the Pro and Elite plans: 100 or 250 points a month added to the Monthly score only. Boost is capped at 25% of a game's real votes that month, so a game needs 400 votes to use all of a Pro Boost, and it is always shown separately on the card, like “412 votes + 100 boost”. Boost does not count on Trending or Rising, and a game with more real votes than another game's votes plus Boost always ranks higher.
Getting listed
Every new game, and every later change to a game's name, URL or banner, is reviewed by an admin before it appears. We aim to review within 48 hours.
Privacy
We store a salted hash of each voter's network address, not the address itself, and a random device id in a cookie. The player id in a vote link is shared only with the game it belongs to.
